How to Write about Walking: A Workshop on a Walk Around Miami
Led by Nathan Deuel
Miami is a city of cars and roads but it's also a marvelous place to walk. Miami is a city of beaches and bars but it’s also a city of readers — and a few who want to learn better how to write. Join a Walking Workshop with Miami native, essayist, author, teacher, and walker Nathan Deuel. We’ll meet on Miami Beach, and we’ll take a 3-hour walk around the city. We’ll discuss writing, and, most importantly — with our eyes on the road and taking in everything we see — we’ll discuss the tricks and charms and habits of making a piece of writing from a long day spent on two feet.
Be advised: This is NOT a workshop around a table. It is a three-hour (10am - 1pm), outdoor trek on pedestrian thoroughfares.
Nathan Deuel is the author of Friday Was the Bomb (Dzanc Books, 2014), an Amazon Best Book of the Month. He teaches writing at the University of California, Los Angeles and has written essays for The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Harper's, and The New Republic, among others.
