Have you ever been to one of the free movie screenings on the side of the New World Symphony building?
Former U.S. Poets Laureate Robert Hass and 2011 National Book Award-winner Nikky Finney read as part of the first-ever Poetry Wallcast in Soundscape Park.
Bring a blanket and watch two of the most celebrated poets in the world read their work on a 7,000 sq foot outdoor projection screen in full, high-definition surround sound.
The event is free and space in the park is "first-come, first-serve."
Come early to hear free music by Somewhat Hungover, Oscar Fuentes, and New World Symphony Fellows in the park beginning at 5 p.m. Food will be for sale from Lalatina, My Ceviche, Feverish Pops, and House of V. Bookleggers Mobile Library will set up a book exchange. KIND Snacks will have a "Flower Wall" - get a KIND bar and a flower; keep the bar, give away the flower. The Bass Museum will present: Monumental Paper Chain, a collaborative project which asks participants to write messages of peace and inspiration and then add them to a giant paper chain.
The reading will start promptly at 8 p.m. BREAKING: we will also debut filmmaker Kayla Delacerda's short film "To Capitalist Poem #5," which is an adaption of a poem by Campbell McGrath.
After the reading, the poets will meet with the audience and sign books, courtesy of Books & Books Independent Bookstore, and we will give away the official 2014 O, Miami Tote Bag.
This event is rain or shine. In the case of rain, we will invite the audience indoors.
