Who are the new Spanish poets? What are the trends in contemporary poetry in Spain? What's the political atmosphere? Poet Elena Medel hosts a talk on the state of poetry in Spain. Co-sponsored by Centro Cultural Español.

Elena Medel (b. 1985) is one of the most talented and promising young writers in Spain today. She has published four books and a chapbook to date, two of which have won prestigious literary awards. At only 16 years old she won the ‘Andalucía Joven’ prize, awarded by the Junta of Andalusia, for her book Mi primer bikini / My First Bikini (DVD, 2002), and last year she won the XXVI Young Loewe International Poetry Prize, Spain’s most prestigious awards of its kind, for Chatterton, her most recent collection.
